The African woman cannot be described by a single image. When white people think of African women, the image of strong African mothers and soul singers quickly comes to mind. But that's not what African women are. They are businesswomen, community builders, teachers, development workers, doctors, lawyers...
We interviewed some extraordinary women about their experiences, their lives and their dreams. Each woman has her own story, each is unique. With contributions from Aurore, Marie-Claude, Bre_Uwin, Alice, Bélise, Clarissa, Crépine, Solenne, Anna, Rihab and Awa-Alice.

This activity is part of Vrouwxnlente, an annual festival organised in Brussels community centres to mark International Women's Day on 8 March.

Discover Swahili by music ! In this activity, we practise language by listening to music together. A Swahili teacher will guide the evening with a variety of exercises. Learn Swahili in a fun and interactive way! [18:30 - 21:00]

Kuumba jam is your free stage for jam sessions in Brussels. Come and jam with other artists! Nutshell will perform first at 20:00, then the stage is open to musicians. 

NUTSHELL is an international band from Brussels with a unique blend of reggae, ska, rocksteady and world music that takes you on a mystical journey full of powerful and positive messages. The show is above all a hymn of unity, equality and joie de vivre. The group consists of six musicians. You can expect a performance full of energy.

Join us for an evening of spoken word for soft loud, humble or confident voices. We start at 18:30 with a collective writing sessions around climate change and afterwards you're welcome to join the open mic at 20:30. You can share a text at the open mic even if you can't join the writing session.

Discover words about cooking and eating in Swahili! You apply them immediately with the help of a Swahili teacher. Kuumba will provide all the ingredients. Bring your basic Swahili knowledge and join in! Learn, cook and eat together! [18:00 - 20:00]

‘Family Day!’ is one of our recurring events with playful and collective activities for children and families. We want to create a warm space where parents, children and residents from Anderlecht and surroundings can meet through fun activities. Everyone can participate in African board games, face painting, crafts, dance or percussion workshops. During the event, Kuumba Kaffee will also be open, so curious passers-by are welcome to pop in and get a taste of the atmosphere.

While the children play, you can also join the relaxing afternoon for women. Sometimes it is good to unwind with other women. Come and enjoy a lovely relaxation session (pedicure, manicure, hair care, workshop around relaxation). To make this afternoon complete, Mama Bolingo will provide a delicious meal.
