People and cultures often live just next to each other. ‘Kuumba’ Flemish African House wishes to create a free space where such people and cultures can really meet.
To this end, we develop a range of activities in cooperation with other organisations: daily get-together, music and dance workshops, concerts and jamsessions, café and restaurant, movies, debates and exhibitions
Our House is located in the heart of Matongé, Brussels’ African district par excellence where the Belgian colonial past blends with the modern multicultural society.
“Kuumba” is the Swahili word that means “to create”, hence creativity. With this we mean the energy and creativity that bubbles up as cultures and communities come together.
